Fixing a Kitchen Spay Hose

A spray hose can be a useful addition to many kitchens, allowing you greater flexibility while using the sink. The benefits it provides will make it necessary to know how to repair it when it suffers a leak.

Tools and Materials Needed:

  • Wrench
  • Old toothbrush or nailbrush
  • White vinegar
  • Small container
  • Replacement components

Step 1 – Disassemble

Start by loosening the fastener that connects the spray hose to the sink. This can often be undertaken with a wrench, allowing you to remove the hose to access the parts inside. You will find that the head of the hose will often be where the problem lies as this is where the aerator is situated. This section can be removed separately.

Step 2 – Clean Components

In hard water areas, a spray hose can become clogged with deposits, which can result in leaks. When this is the case, leave the affected parts, such as the aerator, to soak in white vinegar before scrubbing it clean with a small brush. Rinse in fresh water before replacing them.

Step 3 – Replace or Repair

A leak that affects a spray hose can often be caused by defective components that are necessary to make the mechanism work. Look for any signs of corrosion and replace any components that have suffered damage. Ensure that they are of the exact same specifications as the original components.
